Meet your Clinical Psychiatrist

Dr. Gerry Weaver, Pyschiatrist MD, MA, FRCP, (C)

Dr. Gerry Weaver - Clinical PsychiatristDr. Weaver grew up in Trenton, attended Trenton High School, and then went to Trent University in Peterborough where he earned his BA (Hons) in Sociology and Philosophy.

He then received an interdisciplinary MA at York University in the Graduate Program in Social and Political Thought.

He worked for a year as an orderly on the neurosurgery ward at Wellesley Hospital in Toronto.

Following this he attended McMaster University Medical School where his MD degree was conferred and he then received his psychiatry education at the University of British Columbia and was accepted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1984.

For the next three years his work was divided between private practice, the psychiatric emergency room at the Vancouver General Hospital (where in his final year he had been chief resident), and court ordered assessments for the BC Adolescent Forensic Psychiatric Unit, before returning to the Quinte region in 1987.

Since then he has operated a private practice, and continues work with Mental Health Community Services, Geriatric Psychiatric Services, and Psychiatric Services for the intellectually disabled.

The common theme that runs through these practice venues has continued to be the combined individual and group reactions to stress, which will vary widely, from the benign to the extreme. Hence Dr. Weaver’s interest in post-traumatic stress disorders and other related stress disorders as they occur in most clinical circumstances.

Dr. Weaver is particularly keen to join the Centre for Family Preservation & Wellness on account of his belief in the importance of continuity of care for the most difficult aftermath that many of our veterans face.
